1900 or The Last President, originally published in 1896 by Ingersoll Lockwood, is a work of historical fiction which contemplates what would have happened if William Jennings Bryan had won the Presidency in the election of 1896.There are many parallels to present-day politics in this work of fiction. Some have even gone so far as to wonder if President Trump may have acquired a time machine and informed the original author. In addition to both Presidents winning a shocking electoral victory, some obvious parallels to President Trump's election win include a Fifth Avenue hotel in New York City, spontaneous protests, a member of the President's cabinet with the last name of Pence, Congressional conflicts with the President including a dramatic State of the Union address and more.
